Word Up (Literacy Program)

Wednesdays 3-4:30PM @ O’Connor Public School

Word Up is a program that seeks to empower young people to be leaders in their community, school and peer group. This is done by emphasizing 3 important elements of child development: resilience, literacy, and citizenship. Through our weekly after-school program at O’Connor Public School, children will be given opportunities to build positive thinking patterns, improve their reading and comprehension skills, and find creative ways to contribute to their surrounding school and community through a project initiated by the students.

Other Programs

School Volunteering

(George Webster - Thursdays)

The aim is to support students in the classroom through tutoring and or supporting them in their daily tasks.

Mercy City Church

Dawes Road (Thursdays 3pm-5pm)

In partnership with Mercy City Church, we engage youth in the community through worship, bible lessons and outreach.

Connections

Connections are a focused time of mentoring and building a relationship with each other. We go on different small group outings, sometimes eat together and, most of the time, talk about life and goal setting.

Retreats

Hiking, biking, canoeing or tobogganing! We enjoy a number of outdoor activities. We base our choice on the season and the interest of the group at the time. We leave the city behind to explore the country and ourselves as we play games and study the Bible to encounter God and each other.
